Imperial Beach Man Injured in Trolley Station Fall Receives $21 Million Settlement
The San Diego Union Tribune reported a man who was seriously injured when he tripped getting off the trolley in East Village two years ago will receive $21.5 million in a settlement. The victim, David Long, was stepping off the trolley at the 12th and Imperial Transit Station on May 23, 2013, when he tripped over a two-inch piece of track where workers had ground down the asphalt. Long hit his head on the platform and suffered fractures to the vertebrae in his neck. A lawsuit was filed in January 2014 against the Metropolitan Transit System, HMS Construction, San Diego Transit Corporation and other defendants. The case settled in late July, and will be paid in full by insurance companies by September 4th.
