Drugs Suspected in Fatal Lakeside Crash

Another accident has been reported near Route 67, in Lakeside. On Sunday evening, a 34-year-old Lakeside women was very tragically killed when a man driving a blue Toyota RAV4 struck her at the intersection of Woodside and Riverview avenues. The driver told investigators that he was trying to get back on Route 67 and fell asleep and woke up after the accident. Police performed a field sobriety test and determined the driver, 33-year-old Joel L. Silva, was under the influence of some type of medication. Silva, a resident of Julian, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter while under the influence and was booked into San Diego Central Jail.
